Artifact #6 Cybersafety Training
Our ETIL Team was charged with presenting to different cybersafety presentations to all of our students. The two topics we had to cover were Social Networking Safety and Cyberbullying/CyberHarassment. We had to do these presentations in order for our district to receive eRate funding. We began planning for these presentations last fall.
As we began to plan, I asked for volunteers to help me with the various tasks we had to do. Donna Hoffner and Paula Busey volunteered to help me find resources and create the lesson plans for teachers. For the Cyberbullying/Cyberharassment lesson, we video taped Officer Vance Fleet responding to some questions about the legal consequences of cyberharassment and what our kids can do to prevent it. We then used these questions with the students before they viewed the videos. The students talked about what their perceptions were, then watched the video to compare their thoughts to the facts.
For the Social Networking lesson, Paula and Donna found these amazing "NetSmartz" videos that we used in combination with discussion questions that Paula created.
We worked with Joe Ortiz and Terrin Kelly to coordinate dates during seminar and also worked with Katy Saville in order to get the word out to staff as to what they're supposed to do on the day we presented the lessons to the students.
I am submitting the lesson plans we gave to our staff and links to the NetSmartz Videos we used. I would have liked to included the video we made with Vance, but the file was too big to post to this site. (I can burn a copy to a DVD for you if you would like!) Post To Be Private Video (Social Networking) Profile Penalty (Social Networking)
